The human brain is a very complex and essential organ of the human body as it contributes to most of the processes that take place to keep it functioning and strive in its environment. 

The brain transport messages in a form of electrical impulses through neurons which are located all around the human body, neurons have the ability to communicate to other cells by synapses, during this process they diffuse chemical substances called neurotransmitters through the synaptic cleft present in the other cell.

Neurons are in three types: sensory, relay and motor. Each type of neuron has its distinct function. Sensory neuron: converts the external stimuli found in the environment to internal electrical impulses such as heat, pain and so on(affector). Relay neuron: functions as a cell that communicates between sensory and motor neurons using neurotransmitter between the synaptic clefts. Motor neurons: are connected to muscles, glands etc. and make an appropriate response to the sensed stimuli(effector).

Neurons in the brain are covered by glial cells, the word glial means ’glue’ as per the name it holds the neurons in place, maintains the signaling abilities and does not take part in the synaptic and electrical interactions. Glial cells are categorized into Microglial and Macroglial. Microglial cells are specialized macrophages(large cells that engulf and destroy specific target cells) that eliminate damaged neurons and infections which are important to maintain the health of the CNS. On the other hand, macroglial cells certainly serve the function of regulating the retinal metabolism and controls the neuron functions and blood vessels present in the region.
