Hedonic adaptation is the observed tendency of humans to quickly return to a relatively stable level of happiness despite positive or negative events in life. Every day people are facing different stimulus.
For instance, you might have aced that test that you took last week or someone you loved passes away. The brain reacts to both these sensations differently - when you have done something that brings gratification brain starts to release more endorphins and dopamine-producing a feeling of delight. In contrast, when something traumatizing happens, the level of serotonin reduces leading to a miserable sensation
However, the emotional state will return to the optimal level of happiness regardless of the intensity of the positive and negative effect. This phenomenon is embedded in the human brain for its topmost survival during numerous seizing circumstances. Sometimes in life, your role of decisions making might seem very important, "if you screw it up everything will come to its end". This is how our brain will exaggerate certain things inducing stress and anxiety. But at the end of the day, what you felt at the start will go back to how you sued to feel, this is one of the reasons, why the brain is distracting and also manipulative.
In conclusion, do what you love and love what you love and always follow your heart which is your conscience.
