MANY HAVE SIGHT BUT FEW HAVE VISION

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision”. This is an esteemed quote put across by Helen Keller who was an author and activist. But why was this quote put forward ? This line came up to open up the eyes of many people who were able to see but not imagine. Many of us are creative but are not able to display our creativity. Having a vision means having a clear sense of purpose. Vision further explains that we are having a larger picture of our plans and goals. Your vision helps define the goals by giving you a larger image and tells you what you are likely to achieve over a long period. Why is having a vision important ? A vision defines what your ultimate goal is. By visualizing what you are, you can proceed accordingly. Many people ask, where do you see yourself in the next 5 years or so? But why do they ask this? They ask this because they want to know your vision. They want to know what are your plans, goals and how are you going to achieve them. Man...

DO YOU THINK BRAIN IS THE COOLEST ORGAN ? I THINK SO...... (PART 1)

Here is a deep dive into brain-  The human brain is a very complex and essential organ of the human body as it contributes to most of the processes that take place to keep it functioning and strive in its environment.  The brain transport messages in a form of electrical impulses through neurons which are located all around the human body, neurons have the ability to communicate to other cells by synapses, during this process they diffuse chemical substances called neurotransmitters through the synaptic cleft present in the other cell. Neurons are in three types: sensory, relay and motor. Each type of neuron has its distinct function. Sensory neuron : converts the external stimuli found in the environment to internal electrical impulses such as heat, pain and so on(affector). Relay neuron : functions as a cell that communicates between sensory and motor neurons using neurotransmitter between the synaptic clefts. Motor neurons : are connected to muscles, glands etc. and ma...

LIVING IN THE FUTURE, ARE WE?

“YOU NEVER CHANGE THINGS BY FIGHTING THE EXISTING REALITY. TO CHANGE SOMETHING, YOU BUILD A NEW MODEL THAT MAKES THE EXISTING MODEL OBSOLETE” quoted by BUCKMINSTER FULLER . We are moving to a greater level of conscience with changes arousing exponentially around us and stimulating fear, sorrow and happiness to us. The most prominent and anticipated event was the “Fourth Industrial Revolution .a.k.a. A Digital Era” which is sparking innovation, driving economic growth and improving the quality of lives. Our First Industrial Revolution discovered the catalyst of production - Water and Steam Power. The Second used the potential of “Electric Power” to provide mass production. The Third led to the creation of “Information Technology”, “Electronics” and opened a new horizon of opportunities to explore for scientists, academics, businesses and governments. WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW? This era is characterised by unique technologies such as 3D Printing, Self-Driving Cars and connecting th...

SPEND OR INVEST TIME ? YOU PICK

Spending and investing can be two words with very similar meanings at times. But the turn takes place when these two words are aligned with the aspect called time. Time is something we meet on a regular basis. Time is free but priceless. You can’t own it but you can use it. You can’t stop it but you can manage it. Leo Tolstoy once said, “ the two most powerful warriors are patience and time”. But the question arises to many of us that are we using our time the right way ? We all have the same 24 hours but it’s about how you utilize it. So should we spend our time or invest our time? You either waste, spend or invest time. So make your choice wisely. Spending your time on something means that you are using it but not looking to get anything back. On the other hand, investing refers to utilizing your time to grant you a meaningful benefit. You must’ve got the answer to the question I asked earlier on. Didn’t you? Many people think that investing only comes into context when we talk about...

YOUR HEART KNOWS THINGS THAT YOUR MIND CAN'T EXPLAIN

Hedonic adaptation is the observed tendency of humans to quickly return to a relatively stable level of happiness despite positive or negative events in life. Every day people are facing different stimulus.  For instance, you might have aced that test that you took last week or someone you loved passes away. The brain reacts to both these sensations differently - when you have done something that brings gratification brain starts to release more endorphins and dopamine-producing a feeling of delight. In contrast, when something traumatizing happens, the level of serotonin reduces leading to a miserable sensation  However, the emotional state will return to the optimal level of happiness regardless of the intensity of the positive and negative effect. This phenomenon is embedded in the human brain for its topmost survival during numerous seizing circumstances. Sometimes in life, your role of decisions making might seem very important, "if you screw it up everything will ...

MISTAKES REFINE YOU, NOT DEFINE YOU

“Mistake”. A word that often troubles us. It is an error made by us that produces an unwanted result. Mistakes could be of various kinds which range from several degrees; small to big. But why do we always keep thinking about it? Sometimes we know the right thing to do but go for the wrong thing. We call that a MISTAKE. Some of us are very excited about trying out new things and don’t know what the result would be. It might be a BAD one. Then that’s a MISTAKE. But what we don’t realize is that mistakes are one of our biggest teachers in life! John Bradshaw once said, “ It’s okay to make mistakes. Mistakes are our teachers - they help us to learn”. Mistakes come to teach you so that you learn from them and don’t repeat them in the future. When you make a mistake, there are only three things you should ever do about it: admit it, learn from it, and don’t repeat it. Many of us don’t accept defeats and get stuck in the same spot. But if you're doing that, let me tell you one thing. You...

START WITH WHY: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action

START WITH WHY?? What do you mean by starting with why? These were the rhetorical questions recurring in my mind before I read this amazing and inspiring book. Sometimes, I was apathetic and mundane about my life goals and I doubted my own process of working. As quoted by Suze Kassem, “ Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will”  and doubt is a symptom of ingenuity.  In this book, the author describes numerous personalities who have reached their highest potential by adhering to their processes and creating a revolution in the world. Simon Sinek; a well-established author and an inspirational speaker describes in his own charismatic words how great leaders inspire action and repeat their success again and again!! THE IMPACT OF GOLDEN CIRCLE The golden circle is a practical guide which improves leadership, builds a loyal group and incorporates a vision for people. The author emphasises that our goals must start with “ WHY” and not begin with “ WHAT” . WHY - What is your ...

TRAPPED IN THE WATERS

I was ecstatic and thrilled to begin my journey with my friends – Roy and Alice. I was an archaeologist who loved to embark on adventurous explorations and figure out ancient civilisation's lifestyle. I packed all my essential resources and equipment for the trip. My mom looked bothered and asked “How many days is your trip for? Aswin'' I looked at her and responded in a tranquil way “It's just for 3 days mom, don’t worry about me! She was gratified with my stay and I noticed my friends waiting eagerly for me to join the car. I waived my hands with a smile on my face.  We slowly drove the car and reached the harbour. It was massive and the ships appeared gargantuan. We booked a minor ship for five of us including the two sailors to accompany us for the journey ahead. I observed the pitch-dark sky surrounding the ocean and the midnight blue waves of water pacing us towards the island. Roy fell asleep and Alice was half-awake with her eyes blinking at a slow pace. I was...

TYPE OR WRITE ? YOU DECIDE

Typing and writing collectively have been 2 prominent mediums of human communication since the past decade or two. Typing has been recently introduced compared to writing, and has been able to attract millions of people to accept this new mode of communication. It's very familiar when we say texting, chatting, messaging etc because this all comes under the mode of typing. We are so used to it that we forget it has replaced the art of writing. Writing on the other hand comes more into picture when we refer to our notebooks and written-work. People used to converse more with written work like letters than as of today. But the question that arises is what is better, written or typed work? Well, this depends on what you are doing and how much effort you are ready to put. Studies have proven that when you write, you are able to develop a more conceptual understanding. There was a Psychological science research conducted by researcher Daniel Oppenheimer at the University of California w...

DO BEAUTY CONTESTS SERVE A PURPOSE IN SOCIETY?

"Beauty attracts the eye but personality captures the heart". This is a well-known line which expresses the standard of beauty and personality. Yet many argue that beauty should be given the highest priority. This is why beauty contests have been running for decades. Some say beauty contests boost self-esteem and elevate socializing skills. Whereas many say that this is not the platform where women can express themselves at their utmost. So do the cons outweigh the pros? From the 2010s, many articles and reports were published to show the positive side of beauty contests. In 2015, a blog was published by Weebly stating the positive effects of Beauty Pageants. There were several examples mentioned in the blog like: it encourages growth in confidence, outgoing personality and creates a strong self-image. Due to articles like these, many changed their views on beauty pageants. A lot also claimed that this was better than giving public talks or speeches. Furthermore, several re...
